Peter Tindemans has just been elected ad Secretary General of Euroscience, the grassroots organisation of European scientists and all those interested in science, technology and their application and relation to society across countries, disciplines and academia, industry and research institutes. It is the voice of research and researchers in Europe, and organises the biennial Euroscience Open Forum (Esof) events.
Peter Tindemans, Secretary General in charge as of 1 February 2012, has a PhD in Theoretical Physics from Leiden University. He is well-known for his contributions to science, technology and innovation policy in the Netherlands, Europe and globally. He was responsible for the Dutch research and science policies during the nineties; chaired the establishment of the pan-European Research and Education Networking infrastructure and the Oecd MegaScience Forum (now the Global Science Forum). Since 1999 he has worked as an independent consultant. He has continued to be very engaged in the development of European policies for science, technology and innovation in general, working with ministers and Eurohorcs; in regional innovation efforts and in European policies for Research Infrastructures, including as chairman of all European efforts leading up to the European Neutron Spallation Source to be built in Lund, Sweden. He is working with the World Bank and Unesco in Africa, Latin-America, the Middle-East and Asia. He is a founding member of Euroscience, convenes the Science Policy Group and was chair of the Esof Governance Committee and is member of the Esof Supervisory Board. He was elected three times as a member of the Euroscience Governing Board.
The Euroscience Governing Board expressed its deep gratitude to Dr. Raymond Seltz who has shown leadership and dedication to Euroscience as Secretary-General for the last 12 years. During the Esof in Dublin from 11-15 July 2012 Eurosciene will officially honour Raymond Seltz's achievements. Raymond will continue to be active in Euroscience as Deputy Secretary-General.
