Organized by Euroscience, Euroscience Open Forum (Esof) 2012 has taken place recently in Dublin. It is the largest interdisciplinary science conference and it aims to showcase the latest advances in science and technology; promote a dialogue in society and public policy and stimulate public interest, excitement and debate.
Since its first edition, Esof has been attracting top researchers from the natural sciences and the social sciences business leaders, senior Eu and government officials and international scientific media interested to discuss the best of European science and to address all of the current major global scientific challenges, including energy, climate change, food and health.
Among the participants this year, the Cost Action FP0905, the first on Gm trees, chaired by Cristina Vettori, researcher at Cnr-Plant Genetics Institute (Igv). Experts from this programme have discussed concerns about the real and perceived importance and dangers of plantations across Europe from a scientific, societal, and policy perspective.
The 2012 event has included seminars, workshops and debates on the latest scientific and technological results, as well as a media programme to promote science communication, an exhibition to show the best of European public and private research and finally a science in the city programme to engage with the general public.
